Bereavement support
Offering a place of support for when you have lost a beloved dog.
Bereavement support and advice
We understand how painful it can be to lose a special dog, and we want to support you however we can during this difficult time. Below you can find relevant resources and advice to help you during this tough time.
Spend time with your loved ones
It's important to spend time with your friends or family, try not to distance yourself from those closest to you. Talking to your friends, family and support unit about how you are feeling and what you might need to feel supported can be beneficial during this time.
Be patient
Take time to process the pain you are feeling and take note of anything that is particularly challenging during this time of loss so that you can keep a track of your feelings and how to cope with these triggers. It's important to remember that there is no rush, and grieving can take time. Try not to pressure yourself during this process.
Take care of yourself
Although it can be hard to cope after the loss of a loved one, it is important to take care of yourself. Make sure you are getting enough sleep, eating correctly and still partaking in hobbies and activities that you enjoy.
Grief is unique
Allow yourself to grieve in your own way and at your own pace, each person has their own ways of expressing their grief and there is no right or wrong way to process your emotions. Some people may find solace in activities such as taking a walk, swimming, being out in nature, or by engaging in creative outlets like writing or painting. On the other hand, some people may find it more beneficial to discuss their thoughts and memories of the departed with loved ones or seek guidance from a medical professional.

Help others when you are ready
If you feel prepared, you might like to volunteer at one of our centers across the UK. By doing so, you can provide support and companionship to the dogs in our care, many of whom have experienced the loss of a loved one, just as you might have. Your presence can help them heal and find comfort during a difficult time.
Volunteering not only benefits the animals but also offers you a chance to connect, heal, and make a positive impact in the lives of these deserving pets.
